Fourth and fifth grade students at East Chambers are proud to be called CHICKEN. Recently the two groups met at the East Chambers Elementary where the first C.H.I.C.K.E.N. Club meeting of the year was held. CHICKEN is an acronym for Cool, Honest, Intelligent, Clear-headed, Keen, Energetic, and Not interested in drugs! The organization is sponsored by the Winnie-Stowell Noon Optimist Club who provides each student with a t-shirt that is worn on meeting days. C.H.I.C.K.E.N. Club members wearing their official t-shirt can attend each home football or basketball game free.

Students are also allowed to ride carnival rides free at the Texas Rice Festival during a specified time period if they are wearing their C.H.I.C.K.E.N. Club shirt.Sheriff Joe LaRive opened the meeting with an inspiring message to explain the purpose of the organization. He introduced the EC Varsity Cheerleaders who led the students into drug-free cheers and chants. The men of the Optimist Club served refreshments at the conclusion of the meeting.

Elementary Students Enjoy Various Activities

Elementary students and staff have been enjoying various activities on campus including students and faculty dressing up as farmers to support the farmers and ranchers during the annual Texas Rice Festival.

In addition, students enjoyed witnessing Ms. Millner-Sanchez, director of Spirit Singers get a "pie in the face" because the Spirit Singers sold over 600 Music Cards. Student Safety A Priority:  No Flip-Flops

Students in elementary grades abide by a campus dress code that does not allow students to wear flip-flops.  The reason is simple:  Student Safety. Young children are very active during P.E. and recess; in the past we have had several injuries due to students wearing shoes that were not safe during physical activities. We appreciate the effort on your part in helping us enforce this safety measure.

Shoes should not detract or interfere with the learning environment or present a safety or health hazard.  Students may not wear cleats, slippers, thongs, backless sandals or flip-flops.  All shoes must have straps around the back of the shoe. For safety and health reasons, shoes must be tied or fastened according to the shoe style.  No Flip-Flops
